Game Development Glossary
As an educational resource, we've compiled a list of common terms used in our dev logs. Understanding these will help you follow our development journey.
Indie Studio
A video game developer that operates without the financial support of a large video game publisher. Indie studios often focus on innovation and niche gameplay mechanics.
Common Misconception: Being indie does not necessarily mean "low quality"; it simply refers to the independence of the development team.
Casual Game
A video game targeted at a mass audience, characterized by simple rules, shorter sessions, and requiring less learned skill than hardcore games.
F2P (Free-to-Play)
A business model where a game is provided free of charge, but players may optionally purchase cosmetic items or quality-of-life upgrades. At Lucky Bear Club, our focus is on ensuring the core game is completely free and accessible.
Alpha Build
An early version of a game that is incomplete. It is mainly used for internal testing to see if the core mechanics are fun and functional. Most of our current projects are in the Alpha phase.
UI / UX
User Interface (the buttons, menus, and visual elements on screen) and User Experience (how intuitive and satisfying it is to interact with the game). Good UI/UX is crucial for family-friendly games.
